How To Become a Black And White Photographer
Many people ask me why I only photograph in black and white. Color photographs are beautiful, but the first thing you see is the color. The magical thing about black and white photos is that it allows you to truly see the subject - who they are and how they are feeling.
Many more ask me how I became a photographer. Like many great things, it was actually an accident! Very few know that I have a masters in counseling psychology, with an emphasis in child and family counseling (which is why I love working with families and children)
When I was in college, I always wanted to take a photography class but it never worked out with my schedule. Once I reached grad school, I took a 6 week photography course over the summer at PCC. I practiced taking portraits of the boys I nannied for. At the end of this summer, I realized I didn’t want a career in counseling. With no other plan in sight, I took a chance on starting my own photography business. Turns out - it worked!
18 years later, here I am.
