People often ask my clients, how did your photographer get the kids to do that?

The truth is, I don’t "do" anything. I listen, and I allow them to lead the direction of the shoot. My goal is to capture their authentic experience of their childhood…not to impose adult fantasies of what childhood “should be” onto them. As a result, parents have deeply emotional responses to their child’s portraits. What’s revealed is just see a likeness of their child...but something deeper.
